FABRICE DUBUY

WORK IN PROGRESS

I'm working on a small business to manufacture and sell various objects around the world of light and high-tech devices. My target is to improve my skills and my knowledge of the various manufacturing processes, and to discover new technologies and tools.
I'll focus on honest & quality materials, simple technology and personalization in a first time. In the future, I plan to developpe my range of products with LED technology and elaborated shapes and design.

WOOD LOVER

charming, ecofriendly, elegant, durable

I really love wood, and I'm slowly learning the various kinds, their specificities and how to work with them. For now, I'm focusing on the common species I can find in France to make my first few series. My plan is to move to exotics & uncommon woods in a near future...

Background
  • OAK

    durable & full of charme

Oak is a very popular wood, abundant and easy to work, yet very durable. It is used in many fields, for various application such as boat construction or whiskey and wine barrels. I'll focus my work around french oak, with various stains and dyes to match the other components and create unique objects.
  • Beech

    clear & full of potential

Very common in Europe, Beech is a durable wood, easy to work and full of potential. Its clear color makes it very appropriate for laser engraving and various stains and dyes to create unique pieces. Available in many different size and shape, this wood will lead to various typologies of objects.
  • Walnut

    elegant & full of colors

Very common in north America, it's a bit more difficult to find it in Europe. Its dark and rich color make it a very elegant and interesting material. I'll focus my work on quality boards, with a unique grain and try to embellish the natural beauty of this wood.
  • Other

    exotic & full of possibilities

I'm also interested in various other wood species, like mahogany, bamboo or, more commly, Birch. Every wood has its specificities, and learning how to work and embellish them is a long road. I'll work on these species in parallel of my normal work in order to create special series of lights.

LEARNING
MANUFACTURING
PROCESSES

PICK UP THE TOOLS, LEARN THE MACHINE

I already work on various machines, mostly around the woodshop, but I can't wait to learn new manufacturing processes. The CNC milling machine was so much fun to learn, and the water cutting machine was nice to try. The plan is to make a few wooden objects to begin with, and if I improve my welding skills in the future, I'll move to more elaborated lights made of wood & metal...

Background
  • CNC Milling
    WOODWORK

Working with wood is all about experience and practice. The CNC machines allows me to explore new territories in wodden manufacturing...
  • WATER CUTTING
    LASER ENGRAVING

The ability to cut or engrave aluminium, marble or steel, among other materials, brings hand made manufacturing to a all new level...
  • 3D PRINTING
    WELDING

Experimenting or building prototypes with 3D printing make it much easier to try innovative shapes, assembly, or interactions with the light...

WOODWORK & TECHNOLOGY

Background
  • LED TECHNOLOGY

I'm working on various prototypes based on LED technology and low voltage power supplies.

  • innovative interactions

My target is to find new ways to interacts with your light at home.

  • small scale

I like to do things myself, and keep the freedom to choose what I want to build and sell.
