Alex Murdaugh Sentenced to Life in Prison For Double Murder
Alex Murdaugh, 54, the patriarch of a once-powerful legal dynasty in South Carolina, was found guilty on all charges and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences on Friday. Murdaugh was convicted of murdering his wife, Maggie, 52, and son, Paul, 22, in Moselle on June 7, 2021.
The Murdaugh family has been under scrutiny since 2015 due to the suspicious death of 19-year-old Stephen Smith, who was found dead near the family’s Hampton County hunting lodge.[0] While there is no evidence linking Alex or his son, Buster, to Smith’s death, locals are speculating that the family was either involved or had knowledge of how he passed.[1]
Buster was present in the courtroom when his father was sentenced to life in prison for the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh.[2] It is unclear what Buster currently does for a living, but he worked at his father’s law firm prior to Alex's arrest.[3]
Outside of the courthouse, one heckler shouted, “Buster is next … your son is next, Alex!”[4] While Smith’s death is still under investigation, the Murdaugh family has not been officially linked.[0]
Brooklynn White, Buster’s girlfriend, is also receiving a lot of attention.[5] White relocated to Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 2014, and the two were introduced through a mutual friend in 2018.[5]
